Bank holidays offer students a chance to relax, catch up on sleep, and take a break from their academic workload.
While most of the shops and supermarkets in the UK do not completely shut down over bank holidays, their opening hours often change. Travel can also be impacted, so its a good idea to check your travel timetables in advance if making plans.

Along with hosting various events, The Union hosts over 100 student societies, including cultural, academic, and hobby-based groups.
The international student group offers the chance to meet new people, attend events and immerse in the British culture.
There are many volunteering opportunities via the university and also local charities.
Joining a sports club is a great way to meet others and try something new.
There are many clubs and societies, such as faith groups, societies based around political views, and also hobbies and interests.
Rise is Manchester Met's unique offer of Co-Curricular Experiential Learning. Through Rise you can engage in events, activities, self study packs (like this one), lots of different certifications, internships and more. It is all free and all available to you throughout the year.

Everything you participate in, earns you Rise points. These build towards micro-credential badges for you to share on LinkedIn or CVs and also appear on your Rise transcript. Once you have 300 points, you are eligible to earn official co-curricular accreditation on your university transcript by completing assessed reflection. Most importantly, Rise allows to try all sorts of new things that may compliment your degree or be something completely different. This all helps you discover more about yourself more, build skills and learn by doing.
Please note, there are over 200 self study packs available that are public facing, so you can access them now, start your learning journey and earn Rise points. To do this, you can create a login with your own personal email and this will be synced with your student email when you join.

Manchester Met runs on tight timetables. That means that all sessions, lectures, etc. start at the time stated on your timetables and staff will start at the time stated. Please ensure that you arrive in time (or a few minutes early) for any classes or appointments. If you are unable to attend, please contact the member of staff through email or teams. This also applies to any group work situations. Communication usually fixes everything, so let people know if there is a reason that you find you will be late or absent.
