Purpose of the System
The Rise LMS exists to support users in accessing, creating, and engaging with learning experiences, resources, and activities connected to Manchester Metropolitan University’s Rise programme. All users are expected to engage with the system responsibly and in a way that supports a positive learning environment.
Appropriate Use
When using the Rise LMS, users must:
Use the platform for educational and developmental purposes only, in line with their role as a student, staff member, or authorised contributor.
Engage honestly in learning activities, ensuring all submitted work and contributions are their own unless explicitly stated otherwise.
Respect the learning community by interacting courteously at in-person events, but also digitally; in comments, discussion areas, shared workspaces, and peer‑review activities.
Follow all university policies, including the IT Services Acceptable Use Policy, Data Protection guidance, and any rules relating to academic integrity.
System Integrity and Security
Users must not:
Engage in any activity that could disrupt system performance (e.g., bulk automated downloads, attempts to bypass security, introducing harmful software).
Misuse integrations, plugins, or third‑party services connected to Rise.
Attempt to gain unauthorised administrative privileges.
Behaviour and Conduct
Users must:
Treat staff, peers, and external partners with respect when contributing to discussions or collaborative activities.
Avoid posting any content that is discriminatory, offensive, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate within an academic environment.
Ensure all contributions reflect university values of inclusion, integrity, and professionalism.
External Tools and Linked Services
Where Rise activities link to third-party applications or platforms, users must:
Adhere to the external provider’s terms of use.
Not upload university or personal data into third-party systems unless permission has been granted and guidance has been provided.
Use external platforms in a way that does not compromise university data or reputation.
Data and Privacy
The Manchester Metropolitan University takes your privacy seriously and advises users to take precautions to protect their personal data.
Users must:
Protect their own login credentials and never share accounts.
Avoid uploading personal, confidential, or sensitive information about themselves or others unless a Rise activity specifically requires it and data handling guidance has been provided.
Not attempt to access, modify, or extract data belonging to other users or the university.

Monitoring and Compliance
The university may monitor system access and activity for maintenance, security, and policy compliance.
Breaches of this Acceptable Use Statement may result in restricted access, academic misconduct processes, or disciplinary action in accordance with university policy.
