Design Thinking 2 - Ideation

Learn to solve problems creatively, with a focus on creating innovative solutions, prototyping and communicating ideas. This Design Thinking course will help you develop your ability to creatively solve problems.It’s the second part of a two part course and it explores the second half of the Design Thinking Process. We’ll be looking at ideation and prototyping. If you’re joining from part 1, welcome, If you’re new, you can do this part without doing part 1, but we’d recommend that you go back and do part 1, which was about understanding our problem space and the people within it.One of the key components of Design Thinking is being human centric, meaning you really do have to know your audience, and another key mindset is that we have to be willing to challenge our thinking and maybe reframe our problem so I would really recommend giving that half a go.Another tenant of this process is that we continuously learn by doing and iterate on our work. The main way we do that is by creating prototypes and using them to test our ideas. That’s why Design Thinking methods can particularly help when you have a complex or fairly novel problem.In this course We’ll explore how to have an idea, how to choose the most suitable idea, then how to create something quickly that you can test with your audience. If you have a project you want to take through this process as we go through the course, wonderful. If not, I’d recommend that you come up with a hypothetical idea so you can have a go at some of the processes.

There are more than 82 million forcibly displaced people in the world; over 20 million of whom have refugee status. Conflict, persecution and a well founded fear for their lives are some of the reasons why people leave their homes and countries. These people are looking for somewhere safe to rebuild their lives and start a new life free from persecution or threat. This self-study pack will explore the myriad of reasons why people leave, look at the journey they must undertake to find safety and unpack the challenges and barriers they face at different stages. By the end of this course, you will have a better understanding of the terminology used around refugees and asylum seekers, as well as knowing more about what happens when people arrive in the UK.This course is ideal for those who want to know more about refugees in general, as well as those who might go on to volunteer and work with people seeking sanctuary.This course focuses on refugees and the migration of people in the last 20 years or so. It does not provide a comprehensive history of the movement of people prior to the year 2000.Please note – all facts and figures are correct as of the publication date of the Self Study Pack. The GM Reflect eLearning modules have been developed with practitioners and leaders from across the Greater Manchester city region and the Northwest to support schools, colleges and other educational settings in promoting best practices and reflections around inclusive practices. Working with children and families means that you encounter different people with diverse needs. You may play an important role in their lives at a crucial point of their journey when considering how care and education can best support all children. This course will:– Develop your understanding of special educational needs and disabilities in the mainstream settings– Raise awareness of the importance of inclusive environments and language– Explore good practice – Build skills and confidence to support pupils and their families as they navigate their education You can study at your own pace, stopping and starting – and the pack will save your progress. There is no deadline for completion and it is free to access. On completion you will be awarded with a digital badge. This eLearning module has been created in collaboration between Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), NW ADCS and Manchester Metropolitan University. This course is aimed at all practitioners within educational settings and is open access and free to use.

Join the Mock COP31 Simulation in Cairo, Egypt

We are inviting students to take part in the Youth COP 31 Simulation at the British University in Egypt. Discover how strategies and policies on climate are developed and implemented while networking with stakeholders and peers from around the world. The COP31 Simulation is a global youth-led climate conference bringing together enthusiastic climate change advocates who aim to ignite real change in today’s world. Selected participants unite to bring their voices, simulate the real sessions of COP31, and interact with chief negotiators, country delegates, and international climate stakeholders. Costs:Flights are covered by the MMU, and the accommodation and breakfasts are provided by the British University in Egypt. COP31 activities as part of this project: A 2-week online capacity-building programme offered by global academic institutions and organisations on climate change. Sessions are delivered online. Participation is a compulsory part of the programme. The sessions will take place between the 4th and 24th of July 2026. COP Mock Conference at the British University in Egypt from the 24th of September to the 1st of October. Students simulate country delegates, chief negotiators and non-state actors. They discuss and vote on their research-based resolutions. Top-performing students might have the opportunity to present the outcomes of the Mock Conference Declaration at the actual COP green and blue zones in Türkiye in November 2026. Please note that you must be available for the capacity-building programme in July, and for the week of the Mock COP Conference at the end of September/ beginning of October (exact dates TBC). Eligibility: All students currently enrolled in their first or second year of study at any academic programme are eligible to apply. If you are not an EU/UK citizen, please check the Egypt visa requirements for your country before applying. Associated Badges:
