COIL - Collaborative Online International Learning with Manchester Met This credential recognises that the holder has participated in Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) through Rise at Manchester Metropolitan University. By engaging in COIL, the holder has taken part in online learning with students from another part of the world, and has collaborated in a multicultural international learning experience.
Take the first step to learning a range of the languages spoken across the World, including French, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese. Explore how language learning can enhance your employability, and the ways in which you can take that learning further. This self study pack will start by presenting the case for learning a language, before giving you a brief introduction to French, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese. This self study pack caters for people with no (or very limited) prior knowledge of the five languages and who would like to learn and practice some beginner-level words and phrases. Becoming Culturally Competent is an introduction to exploring culture, and how by better understanding ourselves and others we can build inclusive spaces of belonging and connectivity.
Take part in an online escape room where you find clues and solve puzzles to beat the clock. This digital escape game centres on terminology and language used in higher education that may not be well understood. Starting university you will learn many new concepts, practical teachings and develop yourself along the way. However, there is information that is never taught and can make a big difference to success. Things like, knowing where to find societies, contacting academics, what even is a 'formative assessment'. Some students arrive at university already familiar with a lot of this language, while others do not. Part of your academic journey is uncovering and learning these hidden aspects of university life. Think of university like a video game. The handbook gives you the main mission objectives but the hidden curriculum is all the secret tips, shortcuts and strategies that experienced players know. They are not always obvious, but learning them can make navigating university much easier. By playing the game you will gain: • An understanding of terms used in higher education.• Links to various helpful sites within the university.• Increased awareness of university life.
