What is volunteering?

Volunteering involves giving your time and skills to support a community organisation, charity or project. This could look like helping with a local marketing campaign to working on the frontline with people who need your help most. This will take place across Manchester (or surrounding areas) with local and national partners. Opportunities range from short, flexible roles to longer-term commitments that run alongside your academic timetable.

At Manchester Met, volunteering is open to all students, at any stage of your degree.

Why should I volunteer?

Concerned about the lack of work experience on your CV? Volunteering is an excellent way to strengthen your CV and demonstrate initiative, teamwork and independent success. It shows future employers that you’ve taken on responsibility, contributed to your community and developed practical experience beyond your everyday lectures.

Through volunteering, you can explore different sectors, discover what motivates you and gain insight into potential career paths. It also helps you build networks, grow your confidence and apply your academic knowledge in real situations.

Many students find that volunteering enriches their university experience, helping them feel more connected, purposeful and prepared for life after graduation.
