STRIVE Mentoring

STRIVE has a brilliant mentoring offer to support those engaging with STRIVE in the first year of their study. Here is how you can be involved:

All first years have opportunity to apply for the STRIVE mentoring scheme.

We are extremely fortunate on to have a network of incredible mentors who are committed to supporting STRIVE mentees. You can meet your mentor face-to-face, online, by telephone by email or a mix — whatever works best for both of you.

Mentors are expected to meet with their STRIVE mentees for at least 2 hours per month
(We recommend for an hour every two weeks).

STRIVE matches mentees with a professional mentor to give you insights into the world of university, studying & work.

You have access to an amazing network of mentors through Vygo.

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring is a one-to-one partnership between a more experienced professional (the mentor) and someone less experienced (the mentee).

Your mentor will encourage you to seek advice and information about your career direction and employment goals. They will also share their skills, experience and insight, and take an interest in your career plans.

The relationship is built on:

  • mutual respect
  • trust
  • encouragement
  • constructive feedback
  • openness
  • a willingness to learn and share

As a mentee, you are an ambassador of the University.

Our Mentors

Our mentors are professionals that will have skills and experience that will benefit you.

The University selects mentors from a wide range of sectors, and they may include:

  • employers
  • representatives of professional bodies
  • recruiters
  • alumni

Please ensure you contact the team on at strive@mmu.ac.uk to find out more.
