Achieve 300 Rise points!
The STRIVE programme launches on Rise in October 2024 and will run through to April 2025. This is a programme of exciting, interesting thought-provoking workshops and activities that will enhance the likelihood of your success at university!
The sessions cover personal professional development (PPD), academic coaching excellence (ACE), employment and employability, and health, wellbeing activities. We have free socials that enable you to meet others and make friends. Every person on STRIVE is eligible to have a 1:1 mentor.
Our mission is to support you in achieving your goals and to create an environment in which you can thrive here at Manchester Met. We do this by ensuring that you are centred in all that we do and by celebrating the diversity that you bring to our community!
Every STRIVER will have the opportunity of completing at least two short (6-8 hours) unpaid virtual internships simulations tailored to your degree. These virtual internships are designed to help you succeed when applying for future work opportunities. On completion of your internships, you will a receive certificate of completion and join the online LinkedIn community with Forage. These internships are hosted by a range of organisations across a variety of industries, such as Red Bull (Food and Beverage), Accenture (Consulting) and Lululemon (Fashion and Commerce) to name a few.
Other professional development opportunities on STRIVE include 1:1 mentoring, insight days, business lunches, networking events and business competitions. These opportunities have proven to be of great value to students and amongst many of the achievements gained by our STRIVERS, we are pleased to share that a team of students from the programme came 3rd in last year’s national Microsoft EDI Universities Business Competition and won £150. All these opportunities are provided by employers and business associates with whom we partner. Additionally, a key part of students’ personal and professional development is the opportunity to receive mentorship, as such every student on STRIVE is eligible to have a mentor for 1:1 sessions.
Balancing life and university can be a struggle. The STRIVE programme has therefore been designed with you in mind: considering your unique needs and experiences. Completing this programme will enable you to achieve your academic and professional development goals. It will support you to level up and develop the confidence to pursue whatever you seek to.
By investing in as little as 50 hours of your time over the academic year to complete the self-study pack on Rise, you can improve your understanding of how to be successful at university. Investing up to 100 hours over the year (2 – 3 hours per week) by also attending our targeted workshops and events will further equip you to strive towards your personal and professional goals and keep you connected with our thriving community.
Listen to Yahya’s story here to hear what he got out of STRIVE.
You’ll be pleased to know that upon successful completion of the STRIVE programme, you will be awarded 300 Rise points. Successful accomplishment of your Rise assessment means these 300 Rise points can be converted into up to 30 extra credits on your transcript for employers to see (subject to course eligibility).
We end the programme in April 2025, with an amazing celebration event where we are joined by mentors, associates, and senior leaders of the University to celebrate your achievements with music, food, prizes, and certificates!
We really hope you will decide to become a STRIVER! We really look forward to supporting you to achieve your success.
