Bye from Beth…

Beth Fulham Rise Communications and Copywriter

This week’s article is slightly different than normal. July 31st marks my last day of working with Rise which means in September I will be starting my third and final year of university (scary!). Over these past 9 months I have met many of you lovely students, took part in Rise events and workshops, and my favourite activity has been writing weekly articles for you. Before I started my placement with Rise, I was an actively engaged student and it’s been so unique sitting in the other perspective. All of the staff at Rise work super hard, day in day out, to tailor all opportunities in order to give you the best experience. It’s been eye opening to see and understand how passionate everyone is in making sure every student is included, and gets the experience which is most beneficial to them.

Writing the weekly articles has not only been a wonderful opportunity for me to improve my copywriting skills, but it’s also given me the chance to form a virtual and personal connection with everyone who reads them. Today I am going to reflect on my favourite 3 posts I have written and I hope you can reflect with me.

Black History Month

This article was the first one I wrote for Rise. Looking back there are a lot of changes I would make and different angles I would take however it means a lot to me regardless. Whilst writing this I was super nervous due it to being my first ever published Rise article, and due to the importance of the topic itself. In the end I had a blast writing it and when it officially got published on the website, with my name on it, I was very proud of myself.

Rise report: Grow your own mushrooms

This article is a very close second favourite. Within this I wrote about my time at the ‘Grow your own mushrooms’ workshops. It’s one of my favourites because it was the first time I met some of you and it was great to interact, get involved and generally chat to you. I loved seeing the personalities that we have at our events and, in this case, the shared passion of sustainability (and mushrooms).

    Celebrating 200 years of MMU!

Last weeks article is also another favourite of mine. It’s the biggest one I’ve written, and took the longest, but in my opinion it was worth it. Throughout this article I wrote about the history of MMU and I had the chance to shine the spotlight onto students and staff who have engaged with the community. I felt honoured and excited to be able to brag about the work of Rise, community engaged students, and MMU.

As my final day is coming to an end, I want to say a huge thank you to the whole Rise team. They have made me feel welcomed and looked after whilst still ensuring every student has the best opportunities at their fingertips.

I also want to say thank you to every single one of you. Rise would not be Rise without passionate, ambitious, hard working students like yourselves. I hope you all have an exceptional summer and make sure you are regularly checking the Rise website so you don’t miss any exciting opportunities.

    Byeeeeee!!
