What is Rise?
Rise is Manchester Metropolitan’s co-curricular programme, designed to help you get more out of your university experience.
It gives you the chance to enhance your degree by exploring opportunities beyond your main subject while gaining recognition for all that extra learning and growth. Whether you want to complement your studies or try something completely new, Rise has plenty to offer!
Earn certifications, take part in projects and placements, join workshops and guest talks, volunteer, or pick up new skills with our self-study packs.
These activities and opportunities are led by fellow students, staff, external partners, employers, experts in their fields, and members of the Rise Team.

Rise Points
For every activity you take part in with Rise, you’ll earn Rise Points, which add up throughout your time at university.
You can even claim Rise Points for independent activities outside of Rise, as long as they have contributed to your development and are not already part of your degree or formally recognised elsewhere.
Rise Points help track your engagement and can unlock Digital Badges, transcript recognition, and even make you eligible for additional credit! Keep reading to find out more.
Rise Badges
Rise Badges bring together activities within our six core themes: Self-Effectiveness, Digital, Sustainability, Internationalisation, Civics, and Enterprise.
If you complete multiple activities in one area, you can earn a micro-credential that highlights your commitment and specialism in that theme.
Each badge includes metadata explaining what you did to earn it, and you can share them online. We especially recommend adding them to LinkedIn, it is a great way to showcase your skills to potential employers!
Want to know how to earn a bronze, silver, or gold badge? Check here for more information on Badges.

Rise Transcript
Keep track of all your experiences with Rise with your Rise Transcript, a personalised record of everything you have done outside of your degree. It is also where all your badges will appear!
You can share your transcript on LinkedIn, print it, or include it alongside your CV. It is a great way to highlight your achievements and show employers how you have gone beyond your degree.
Recognition in Your Official Degree Transcript
When you reach 150 Rise Points, you will automatically receive transcript recognition—an extra line on your official degree transcript that reflects your additional efforts.
This appears as practice credits, which do not count towards your final degree grade but recognise the time and commitment you have put into Rise.
Additional Credit
If you are on an eligible course and earn 300 Rise Points, you will have the chance to submit the Rise Assessment, which could even boost your degree classification! Check your eligibility here.
The Rise Assessment is a reflective piece where you will look back on your engagement with Rise and the impact it has had on your learning and development.
Even if you are not eligible to submit the assessment, we encourage reflection as an important part of learning. It helps you appreciate how far you have come, understand your growth, and plan ahead for the future.

Connect and Belong
Most of all, Rise is about connecting—making new friends, meeting like-minded people, and finding your place in the university community.
Rise helps you feel more confident, prepared for the future, and ready to take on new challenges.
Explore experiences by activity type or browse our Digital Badges.
And if you cannot find what you are looking for, just let us know—we will see what we can do!
