Vaccinations

In this section you will learn about vaccinations.

It is important to check if the mother has received the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine as a child.

If there is no record of the vaccination then either a blood test can be performed to determine the mother’s immunity or the vaccinations can be repeated.  This is a particular concern to women who were born outside the UK and did not receive vaccinations routinely when they were children.

If vaccination is required 2 doses of the MMR vaccine 3 months apart are given with the recommendation to avoid becoming pregnant for at least one month after the 2nd vaccination is given.
