Volunteer with MMU Sport: Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach

To help us provide high quality support to maximise performance and prevent injury in teams/athletes training at MMU, we have created a number of valuable opportunities for students to learn and develop their skills as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach.

What is the role? 

Students will develop their knowledge in disciplines such as strength, speed, programming, coaching etc. through a variety of theory and practical based sessions alongside their coaching roles. Each student will be assigned to a team or group of athletes such as MMU Rugby Union, MMU Scholarship athletes, Manchester Thunder Netball, Manchester Giants Basketball etc.

What skills/experience does the student need?

We are looking for students who exhibit our core student workforce behaviours:

Adaptable, approachable, communicative, confident, creative, fun, inclusive, knowledgeable, patient, prepared and supportive.

In addition, the following skills and experience would be desirable:

•       Foundation sport science knowledge / studying sports science related degree

•       Appropriate coaching qualifications such as GB weightlifting or S&C level 2

•       Ambition to pursue a career in Strength & Conditioning

•       Coaching experience (can be within a sport or fitness related)

•       Knowledge and experience of physical fitness testing

•       Competent with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel)

•       Strong organisation and communication skills (especially dealing with groups)

•       A passion for helping people and a willingness to learn & improve

What is the time commitment?

Successful applicants will be assigned to a team or group of athletes on a day/time that fits based on academic/work commitments etc. Delivery will be 2-5 hours each week, some opportunities have a greater time commitment than others.
