Produce a Hybrid Music Event (Art School Live)

28th November to 11th December
Work with a team of students from across the university to plan and produce a live-streamed music event within the School of Digital Arts. You will work to prepare a venue and a live-stream setup to capture a studio session with two professional bands.

What is Art School Live?

Art School Live is a project focussed on bringing live music to the School of Art campus. We book professional bands, prepare a venue, market the event externally, invite a physical audience and also live-stream the whole thing online.

Previous shows are available here: www.artschoollive.co.uk

And you can follow the project on Instagram: @artschoollive

Students run the show

Students work on all aspects of the show. From Event Management to Marketing, Lighting to Graphics, Camera Operation to Vision Mixing. You will receive training, then get to apply it in a real-world setting, with the support of university technicians.

Experience

Don’t worry if you don’t have experience in this area, we will guide you through the process and you can shadow other people who have done it before. It’s all about getting stuck in and getting experience in

What you need to bring to the table

  • Commitment: we’re asking you to commit to the show date, a meeting ahead of the show, plus a debrief afterwards. There may also be opportunities to work on the 4K multicam edit of the show after the fact.
  • You will also have to undertake some work in your own time away from these meetings (e.g. creating graphics/animations, writing reviews, scheduling social media posts etc.) – each team usually meets up on an informal basis in between the official meetings.
  • You will be required to meet deadlines and work to schedules.
  • This is a student-led project – bring your creativity to the table.

Students will be split into three teams to run all the different aspects of the project:

  • Technical Broadcast Team (TBT) team will operate the cameras, vision mixing, sound, lighting and run the graphics and pre-recorded packages into the live show.
  • Events Management Team (EMT) will look after the smooth running of the show – liaising with guests, carrying out risk assessments, logistics and ensuring good communication.
  • Marketing & Branding Team (MBT) team will look after the creation of the show’s graphics along with creating and distributing social media and other promotional content.
