MRI Research Project - Jaw and Tongue Anatomy
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a type of scan that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body. During this project you will work through the following steps as part of a team of fellow students to acquire and analyse MRI data.
Acquisition: Your team will collect MRI data on a target population.
Processing: You will segment the jaw region MRI data to create 3D CAD models (Solidworks) of the tongue and oral cavity.
Results: You will perform statistical analysis to understand the relationship between anatomical features.
Your team will receive support/guidelines/training from the supervisory team and the technical team in charge of the MRI machine.
Your team work will be part of a wider research project aiming at providing new diagnostic tools for neurogenic dysphagia, which is a type of swallowing disorder.

Schedule
-
01/11/23 to 15/02/24
MRI acquisition During this time frame you will recruit some participants to collect some MRI images. -
21/02/24 to 29/04/24
Image Processing During this activity the students will have to process the data. Some training will provided so that you will be able to work independently -
29/04/24 to 31/05/24
Results and interpretation You will have to process the results and interpret them. This activity will be independent and will help you to develop critical thinking.
