Greener Compute Club Launch Event

20th April 10:00 to 12:00
Electricity from fossil fuels is contributing to climate change. IT consumes vast amounts of electricity. So what can we do to minimise and reduce our impact on the planet but still use IT? The Greener Compute Club aims to explore these issues and is looking for volunteers to get involved.
The "Greener Compute Club" aims to educate and empower. We will be student-driven with input from experts in the various fields. We aim to educate regarding climate change and IT’s role and to empower both at an individual level (what each of us can do e.g. re our personal devices, and any coding we do) and at the MMU level (e.g. can we determine and reduce the university’s carbon footprint that is due to IT). Come along to this launch event to find out more about what the club will achieve and share your own ideas on how we can bring more sustainable IT technology to the university.

In A Nutshell...

  • Discover... the energy costs of information technology
  • Engage... with the university community to develop more sustainable information technology
  • Show leadership... and develop initiatives to drive change in the computing sector
  • Implement...your ideas and take action to reduce the carbon cost of the university's IT systems
  • Earn up to 8 Rise points ... which can be recognised within your degree.

Schedule

  • place 10:00 to 12:00 on 20/04/23 - JD East 0.07 (Ground Floor)
