Future Me Week: Values workshop and ideas den
11:00-12:00 Values Workshop:
This is an interactive panel discussion on personal and career values, with Katie Shaw (RECLAIM), Mark Knight (GMCA) and David Gilchrist (MMU Careers).
12:00-12:30 Ideas Den: question setting
The panel will then pose a question for current students: if all barriers were down, what project, company or product would you want to create that would make the world a fairer place?
12:30-1:30 Lunch
The panel will be available for informal conversation or assistance over lunch, but attendees should also use this time to think about the question posed above.
1:30-2:15 Ideas Den: design and build
Attendees now have, in small groups ideally, 45 minutes to come up with a very basic idea of how their values, their sociological/criminological imagination, and their skills, could be used in a project that would make the world a better place. Again, the panel will be available to provide feedback and advice, and attendees (with help if needed) create single-slide ideas that can prompt the final session.
2:15-3:00 Values and Ideas: a review
This final panel session asks ‘what have we learnt (about ourselves and the world)?’
Some of the single-slide ideas will be shown on screen, and discussed for practicality, ethics, politics, cost and so on, drawing attention to the way that personal values can be in harmony (or not) with career and organisational values. One or two might get a prize!
