February Festival (Psychology Dept): The Psychology of Drunkenness
The drunk artist or the stumbling fool. Is it all pharmacology? An introduction (and debate) to how Psychology can help us understand depictions of intoxication and a chance to learn how we investigate this in the lab.
An offer for Psychology students only.
The one hour session will include an introduction to alcohol effects from pharmacological and psychological perspectives. From this, students (and staff) will be encourage to discuss and challenge explanations and depictions of drunkenness, whether this be through knowledge of psychology or personal experience.
To conclude, we will consider how alcohol effects can be ethically investigated both within and outside of the laboratory (how do you deal with ‘drunk’ participants?). Marianne will share some of her stories and experiences administering alcohol in research.
There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion throughout the session.
