Beyond Babel Film Festival
Welcome to the Beyond Babel Multilingual Film Festival 2022!
Now in its 6th year, Beyond Babel returns for our annual celebration of multilingual cultures and film. Beyond Babel is a film festival that aims to celebrate multilingual life showcasing a wide range of films that can open discussions on multilingual life and communities and how they are represented on screen. This edition of Beyond Babel remains true to its core values: embrace the beauty and complexity of multilingualism; showcase transnational film productions from different regions of the world; screen multilingual films which connect us with different cultures.
This year’s programme will bring together four days of screenings, with film introductions and Q&A sessions. The 6thedition focuses on two topics: the experiences of refugees and language learning, one of the core themes of this festival. The films that we are bringing you include a wide range of themes: cultures, multilingualism, homeland, education, gender, global citizenship, mobility, immigration, integration, and identity. The festival aims to engage, inspire, connect, and celebrate the culturally diverse communities of Manchester and beyond.
The Beyond Babel Festival is part of the Film Languages and Media Research group’s contribution to public engagement on lifelong learning in Manchester and the North-West of England.
We are very grateful to our partners and supporters: the Department of Languages, Information and Communications at Manchester Metropolitan University, the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester and the Alliance Française in Manchester and the Film in Language Teaching Association.
