Archives are not just for wrinklies
The Richard Roberts Archive in Stockport holds 150,000 magazines on society, sports, hobbies, motoring and cycling. As a collection it is a unique primary source which is likely to be of direct interest for any student undertaking research. We need your help to work out how we can engage and retain a much wider audience.
Host Researcher: Dr Craig Horner
The Richard Robert Archive relies on its website, Twitter and Facebook presence for its publicity and promotion. Because of this, its audience is overwhelmingly amongst an older demographic. We believe our archive is world class and will engage, delight and inform different demographic groups, particularly younger people.
The archive will support a project to meet this challenge. We seek a motivated student who will assess the archive, its content, business model and promotional methods. The student would be expected to prepare a report outlining real-world suggestions for the trustees to consider. The student will also put in place a social media presence which demonstrably engages newer demographics, and can be readily maintained by archival staff once the student has finished the project. The student may also deliver their findings by presentation if they wish.
While the student will be expected to visit the archive to gain familiarity with our content and methods, this project needn’t be conducted fully on site. If you are interested, please show what experience or insights you can bring to the project.
