Portfolio building for Product Designers

16th March to 18th May
When you get to the end of a project and you think to yourself ‘if only I’d had more time then...’ well ....this is the opportunity to have ‘more time’! This course will be every Wednesday morning for all Product Design Students from first to final year students.
Talks throughout Block 4/Unit X Wednesday Mornings 10am -1pm Lecture/activity Tutorials will also be offered during or slightly outside of this time Staff contact time is expected to be 24 hours across the 8 weeks. Course is delivered by Claire Norcross with additional support from Jon Spruce and workshops technicians 150 Rise Points in Total
  • 75 Rise point for attending the workshops and making the prototype
  • 75 Rise points for the portfolio
  • 20 additional Rise points for online talks CV, Linked in Career Path

    General Introduction and Portfolio Talk, followed by storyboarding task.
    Most employers will get to meet your portfolio before they get to meet you and good portfolio is a creative project in itself. Digital or physical? Taster or full portfolio? What do I put in it, what to leave out? Storyboarding Task for each project.

    Drawing Skills Workshop
    If you need to brush up on your drawing skills to communicate the ideas and concepts stage of your project, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to do so!
  • place 10:00 to 13:00 on 30/03/22 - Wood/Plastics workshop
    Model-Making Individual Tutorials
    This is an opportunity to re-make some early prototypes with the support of academics and technicians. You will bring existing models and drawings and utilise this time to develop professional prototypes.

    MODEL-MAKING INDIVIDUAL TUTORIALS
    This is an opportunity to re-make some early prototypes with the support of academics and technicians. You will bring existing models and drawings and utilise this time to develop professional prototypes.

    Photographing your work and Basic Camera Skills and Portfolio Tutorials
    Delivered by the Photography team this workshop will enable you to take stronger images of your work. There is also an opportunity to have individual tutorials and gain feedback on your portfolio as it develops.

    Lay out of the portfolio
    This session will be in the computer lab (venue tbc) and will be supported by Dominika. We will be largely looking at In Design and you will be required to bring your files/images/copy with you.

    Interview and Verbal Communication of your Portfolio and Lay Out session 2
    Being able to talk eloquently and positively through your portfolio is all part of the package at a job or placement interview. Another opportunity to be able to work with the support of Dominika

    Peer Portfolio Presentation
    It may not be completely finished but this is the chance to test out how well your portfolio communicating to a fellow student who may not know your work! It's also a great opportunity to practice your verbal presentation skills!
