Improving student engagement using online textbooks in Sport and Exercise Science

25th April to 31st July
This Rise Research Internship will assist us in evaluating whether learning activities centred around online textbooks better prepare students for their on campus timetabled sessions. The project is taking place in the Department of Sport and Exercise in Block 4.

Host Researcher: Dr Adrian Burden

In Block 4 this year we, in the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences, will run a project that embeds pre-session activities for students centred around on-line textbooks. The activities will be posted on Moodle and hopefully better prepare students for their timetabled sessions. We ran a similar project last year, with the findings being presented at Man Met and international conferences.

We are looking for our Rise Research Intern to assist us in the project by helping to design on-line questionnaires and focus group questions which will be used to assess the effectiveness of the online textbook focussed activities. Once these tools have been designed we would like our intern to lead focus groups with students working on the pilot activity, and possibly staff. The intern will also assist us in analysing the information from the focus groups and the data from the online questionnaires. It would be great if the intern could also assist in preparing and presenting our findings at a Man Met learning and teaching conference in the summer, and even writing a journal article.
