Researching the history of terrorism

16th May to 30th July
Two internships are available to conduct research into the history and historiography of terrorism, through the use of primary and secondary sources.

Host Researcher: Dr Chris Millington

The first internship involves primary historical research using the digital resources available at MMU. The student(s) will research the reporting in the global English-language press of the assassination of the King of Yugoslavia in France in October 1934. Under the guidance of the project leader, you will look for key words in editorials and articles on the incident, to gain an overview of opinions on the incident. You will write a fully-referenced summary report of your findings that will be useful for researchers of the topic.

The second internship involves the use of the digital and physical library resources available at MMU. The student(s) will conduct a survey of all resources on the history of terrorism available at MMU concerning the history of terrorism. Once the survey is complete, you will compile a fully-formatted bibliography of the works. Under the guidance of the project leader, you will select a handful of the most important ones and write a summary of their content that will be useful for future researchers of the topic.

Expressions of interest should explain why you are interested in the topic and any experience you have of conducting primary or secondary research. There are four places available. Please tell us if you have a preference for either of the two internships.
