Build for Greater Manchester

2nd March 09:30 to 16:30
On 2nd March, we’re running a 1-day Buildathon. And it’s not your typical hackathon. You won’t just brainstorm ideas. You’ll build practical, tech-enabled responses to real civic challenges linked to the GM Prevention Demonstrator.
This activity is offered as part of Go Global - an exciting set of activities, allowing students to engage in an international experience. Are you having problems signing up to this event? Email GGW6@mmu.ac.uk and we will try to fix the issue for you.

You’ll be working on live civic challenges, not made-up briefs.

Throughout the day you’ll:

  • Join a cross-disciplinary team (UX, Design, Social Work)

  • Follow a fast-paced Double Diamond design sprint

  • Develop a clear problem statement and user persona

  • Build and iterate a working concept or prototype

  • Pitch your solution to a live stakeholder panel

You’ll be supported all day by:

  • Man Met Staff facilitators

  • Industry mentors from Barclays and NoCodeLab

  • GMCA

You won’t be left guessing. There’s structure. Clear judging criteria. Real feedback.

What you’ll gain

  • Real-world experience working on civic innovation

  • Cross-discipline teamwork you can talk about in interviews

  • Confidence presenting to senior regional leaders

  • Exposure to industry mentors and potential employers

  • A strong portfolio piece grounded in real-world impact

  • This is the kind of experience that stands out.
