Kickstart into the World of Data: An Introduction to Data Analysis with Excel!

Moving beyond basic spreadsheets to using Microsoft Excel for insightful data analysis. In this kickstart to data workshop you will experience a hands-on session to gain foundational skills needed to transforming data into meaningful information. These are skills employers desire from graduates.
This activity is offered as part of Future Me Week - five days of exciting opportunities to develop your skills, deepen understanding, gain experience and take steps towards an exciting Future You.

We will focus on techniques such as:

 

  • Boosting your excel proficiency: Increasing your confidence and skill in using Excel for data focused tasks, making you more efficient and valuable in a data driven sector
  • Analyse data:

1.     Preparing and managing data e.g. removing duplicate entries

2.     Using text to columns to separate characters

3.     Lookup functions (VLOOKUP)

4.     Calculating averages and central tendency

  • Observe trends: Discover methods for summarising data and creating visualisations (charts and graphs) to identify patterns and trends.

1.     PivotTables: creating basic PivotTables to summarise large data

 

Whether you need this skill for your course, preparing for an internship/placement, preparing for your career in the real world or simply just curious about the multiple functionalities of Excel. This workshop is the perfect starting point to build your data analysis toolkit by using Microsoft Excel. No prior expert knowledge is required – Just bring your readiness to learn and let’s start upskilling!
