Strategic Thinking Workshop

4th February 13:00 to 16:30
Explore tools and concepts used by leaders and how strategic thinking can help you build a toolkit to become an effective leader.

Being a good leader is not easy! Leadership often requires thinking about lots of different things at once. That might include projects, finances, people, goals, or strategy, or any of the other things that go into running a business or team. Strategic thinking is all about how you manage all these factors without getting distracted from your goals or hitting unexpected challenges. Being a leader with strong strategic thinking skills means you can create effective goals and envision how you will reach them while also being able to anticipate and overcome barriers or threats to your aims.

In this session we discuss questions including:

  • What makes a good leader?
  • What does leadership mean to you?
  • What kind of leader are you?

We will also review some tools that are essential for developing strategic thinking, a skill that is, in turn, essential to effective leadership.

After a short break we will explore barriers to your development and strategic thinking, empowering you to plan for future success. We will discuss issues such as imposterism and the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership and strategic thinking. We will start to think about how you can use strategic thinking to practice your skills by using intentional thought processes when developing goals and action plans.

Following this workshop you will meet with a small group of like-minded students to learn from each other based on asking questions of your peers. The aim will be for each of you to produce a set of realistic actions that will help you work towards your goals and solve any barriers to your development.
