The BIG Science and Engineering Challenge
This one-day challenge brings together students from across Science and Engineering to rethink and re-imagine the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll spend the day exploring original ideas, shaping them into practical plans and developing a pitch.
You’ll hear from graduate employers about what stands out in recruitment, giving you a genuine understanding of how collaboration, creativity and communication are judged in professional settings. We’ll also be joined by St John Ambulance, who’ll share their insights on volunteering and help guide activities throughout the day. With guidance from facilitators, you’ll be encouraged to experiment, take risks and build confidence in a supportive space.
Throughout the day you’ll improve your digital storytelling and design skills using Adobe tools, helping you transform your ideas into a persuasive and visually engaging pitch. Sustainability, inclusivity and audience experience will be central to your approach, whether your focus is cutting-edge tech, live performance, staging, science, sport or something completely unexpected.
You will have real examples of teamwork, leadership and problem-solving that you can draw on in interviews and applications.
