How to Start Freelancing: A Neurodivergent and Disabled Person’s Experience
This session is designed for individuals interested in establishing a freelance business, whether on a full-time or part-time basis. Setting up as a freelancer can be daunting and often feels like a solo journey, and in this talk, I aim to provide a supportive platform by sharing my four years of experience as a freelancer. I have been fortunate to receive valuable guidance from fellow creative freelancers, and I am eager to pass on these insights and my own reflections to others.
The talk will primarily focus on my personal experience as a neurodivergent and disabled woman in the freelancing world, particularly in the creative industry working with charities, galleries, universities, and small companies. I’ll share insights on the common steps and requirements for starting a freelancing business that can be applied to all types of businesses.
This will be covered over a 90-minute session, where participants can expect a talk, a Q&A, take-away resources, and the opportunity for one-on-one discussions with me post-workshop.
Topics included in the talk:
- The benefits of being a freelancer
- When is the right time to be a freelancer?
- Managing your workload.
- Self-care and well-being.
- Pricing your work.
- Managing your money.
- Accessible accounting software.
- How to find work.
