English for International Students (Wednesday): Writing Essays
The Language Centre provides these sessions for any international or non-native speaking students currently enrolled at the University. The lessons are to support you and are not assessed, require no preparation and involve no homework.
This semester we’re providing sessions which focus chiefly on academic writing. We are covering aspects of vocabulary and grammar, such as academic style and caution, and critical thinking skills such as the appropriate selection and use of sources. The contexts are not discipline specific and explore and provide practice in areas which should be relevant to most students engaged in study.
You can expect to be working in an informal and collaborative way with the sessions’ tutors and your peers, so in addition to developing academic English skills you’ll have lots of opportunities to interact and speak with others.
Each week students have the opportunity to come to two sessions. The Monday session is repeated on Tuesday, and Wednesday’s session is repeated on Friday.
You will need to book on for each session you are interested in. Sessions will be available to book the week before.
