Queer Health Care: Creative Zine workshop
A creative workshop exploring the importance and role of symbols and metaphors within health care. Queer imagery often carries dual meaning: (i) to signify a safe space for LGBTQIA+ individuals free from discrimination and (ii) to demonstrate an organisation’s championing of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
However, in recent times (e.g., Covid-19 pandemic), the use of queer symbols and metaphors (e.g., inclusive rainbow flag) has arguably been diluted through utilisation in more heteronormative contexts.
As such, this workshop will offer a safe and inclusive space where attendees can engage in creative activities such as zine making, mosaic creation, and enable attendees to discuss LGBTQIA+ issues related to health in a safe environment.
This workshop forms one element of a MSc Health Psychology dissertation led by Alice Crooks. If attendees provide consent, the artefacts created in the workshop may be included as research data. The dissertation has received ethical approval from the Faculty of Health and Education research ethics committee (Ethos ID: 76194)
