Unpicking Couture Reimagined: in Collaboration with Oscar Munro & Manchester Art Gallery
Join us for a unique opportunity to work alongside designer Oscar Munro, founder of his waste design business, in collaboration with Manchester Art Gallery. Capture his unique design processes working with a variety of waste materials including the MAG Unpicking Couture exhibition banners, sail cloth, seatbelts & hot air balloon off – cut; hand crafting one-of-a-kind bags to be sold in Manchester Art Gallery’s shop and feature in the 2025 Sustainable Fashion Exhibition. In addition students will receive a cash award payment of £300 for this wonderful role.
This project offers a unique opportunity to delve into sustainable design. Participants will work closely with Oscar Munro, brand founder specialising in waste design & fashion, to help capture the craftsmanship & skill going into each unique piece for the Manchester Art Gallery shop & exhibition. The project will take place at Manchester Art Gallery and/ or The Yard MCR.
Students will learn valuable fashion communication & marketing skills, focusing on capturing the essence and values of Oscar’s brand. Filming will include cutting, sewing, close ups of both, interviews of the team & the process from start to finish… plus pastry intervals. The collaboration with Oscar Munro and the gallery offers networking opportunities and a chance to showcase their skills in a professional setting whilst having fun in a small team.
This project encourages the next generation to consider new ways of thinking about their creative methods and social media skills giving them the opportunity to develop tomorrow’s approach to fashion design and film production.
By the end of the project, students will have produced documentary film and reels covering the craft process from the first cut to the last bag being placed on the shop rail. This content will be posted by Oscar Munro & Manchester Art Gallery and support students in building their digital portfolio’s.
