ABOUT US

We are UniCS, the Computer Science Society at the esteemed University of Manchester. Our mission is to foster unity among students through a diverse array of student-led events, with our hackathons standing out as our flagship offerings, widely celebrated within our community.

In our pursuit of excellence, we proudly collaborate with Major League Hacking (MLH), adhering to their esteemed code of conduct. MLH, an organization that has successfully brought together a staggering 55,000 hackers, mirrors our own ambition to unite and empower the tech community.

Furthermore, we take pride in our past achievements, having secured victory in the 2015 autumn season, as well as triumphs in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

What is a hackathon and what can I expect from it?

right arrow

A hackathon is a collaborative event where people come together to solve problems using technology. Work in teams to brainstorm, design, and realise a project over 24 hours, with each creation presented to a panel of judges. Prizes are awarded to the winning teams and mini-events / workshops run throughout. Hackathons are a great way to challenge yourself, learn new skills, and have a great time with new people!

How does the competition work?

There will be a set of challenges or themes available for you to base your project around. Each challenge has its own set of rules, judging criteria, and expected outcome/delivery provided by the challenge setter (sponsors, societies, the organizing team, etc.)

How are teams formed?

If you already have a team, you’ll be able to register with them. If not, there will be plenty of opportunity to join a team at the beginning of the event – hackathons are about meeting new people too! All teams must be 1-4 members.
