Building an Ocean Intelligent Career

4th November 13:00 to 14:00
Ocean Generation is an ocean-focused NGO and UK Charity which is on a mission to empower an inclusive global movement to tackle Ocean threats through science and storytelling.

Description: As part of Green Careers Week, Ocean Generation are bringing their Wavemakers programme to Manchester Metropolitan University – a programme which aims to empower young people to make a difference to our Ocean using their own skills and values. By positively engaging young people, Ocean Generation aim to foster a sense of agency, leading to tangible behavioural changes and a desire for collective action.

Why do people working in all industries need to learn about the Ocean? Because everything we do comes back to the Ocean. All of us – no matter what we do for a living – have an effect on the Ocean.

That is why Ocean Generation have developed an adapted Wavemaker workshop around building an Ocean Intelligent Career. In this workshop, you will learn about:

  • The emissions that a variety of different industries contribute to
  • The importance of alternatives to plastic packaging and where all industries interact with this
  • How a variety of industries might use the Ocean irresponsibly on a daily basis without even knowing it

You will be challenged with our “plastic problem sets”, looking at how businesses of all kinds can mitigate their impact on the Ocean.

Who should attend: Students who are eager to learn about making a positive impact on the Ocean and how their careers can contribute to sustainability.

Format: Guest speaker and workshop.

Accessibility: We are committed to making this event as inclusive as possible. Find out more about the building and room on the Building Access Map.
