Manchester City Centre Cultural Fashion Guided Tour (Part Two)

30th October 10:00 to 12:00
To celebrate our city's diversity and showcase cultural contributions to its fashion history, we created The Manchester City Centre Cultural Fashion Trail.

The Manchester City Centre Cultural Fashion Trail highlights key fashion shops, designers, and moments, focusing on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) by exploring the nine protected characteristics in a fashion context.

Manchester Fashion Institute we are committed to creating an intentionally inclusive culture of belonging that promotes respect and equity for all; we are proud of our diverse fashion community.

To celebrate the diversity of our city and to provide our students with a glimpse of the iconic contributions various cultural groups and institutions have made towards its fashion history, we

have created The Manchester City Centre Cultural Fashion Trail.

The trail provides a brief introduction into the city’s vibrant fashion scene, and highlights significant fashion shops, designers, and key moments in fashion using equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) topics as inspiration.

Join the tour with Nathan Roberts, a Manchester-born Lecturer in Fashion Marketing and MFI’s EDI Community & Belonging Coordinator!

Over 2 dates – We’ll explore 9 key areas of Manchester, each linked to one of the 9 protected characteristics: Race, Disability, Pregnancy & Maternity, Gender Reassignment, Sexual Orientation, Sex, Age, Religion or Belief, and Marriage & Civil Partnership.

At each stop, we’ll showcase its significance in fashion and textiles, connect it to a protected characteristic, and explore why it’s safeguarded today. We’ll also highlight the MFI and MMU services available to support each community.

Part One: 5 stops ( Race, Disability, Pregnancy & Maternity, Gender Reassignment, Sexual Orientation) on 16th October.

Part Two: 4 stops ( Sex, Age, Religion or Belief, and Marriage & Civil Partnership) on 30th October.

Each tour will take approx. 1.5- 2 hours and is will follow a route with accessibility for all in mind.

You can join either or both sessions — Each will run independently as a tour , and we’ll also provide information for completing each part as a self-guided tour if you would like.

The tour is primarily designed for students new to Manchester, but everyone is welcome! It will be relaxed, friendly, and fun, with plenty of time to chat. Nathan will also highlight iconic Manchester landmarks, key historical moments, and personal spots that hold special meaning in his own life here.

Everyone who signs up will receive an email with all the details, including the meeting point and schedule.
