Grab Your Final Points!

Beth Fulham Rise Communications and Copywriter

It’s come to the end of May, which means you’ve only got a few more weeks in the academic year to get some extra Rise points, and guess what? You don’t just have to do Rise activities to earn them. Today we are talking all about points so read more to find out how you can claim points, what happens to them when you graduate, what practise credit means, and what point-grabbing activities we have coming up…

Firstly, we wanted to say well done to all students who have submitted their Rise assessment! It’s one extra deadline alongside your studies and you will receive your grades very soon; we are so proud of all of you!. In your first or second year? Then take a look at our Assessment page over the summer so you’re ready to tell us your story next year. Remember you can submit early and bank additional credit in advance of next year’s assessments.

Self-claim Rise points

You can claim points for pretty much anything – as long as you think it has value and it isn’t already formally part of your course. The deadline for self claim is the end of June but don’t let that stop you. Whether you’ve done volunteering, or some work experience, or even setting up your own collaborations and micro-projects, tell us about it and let us give you points. You’ve only got a few more weeks, so get your thinking cap on and remember all the activities you have done outside of Rise and claim those points!

In order to claim points, all you need to do is tell us what you did and when. We will ask you to upload a bit of evidence, but don’t be too worried about this – we just need to see some kind of confirmation. This could be a copy of a thank you email, a screenshot of a completion confirmation … If it’s volunteering, it could be as simple as a selfie of you doing the work (make sure nobody else is in the shot!). Self claim HERE.

Rise transcript and practice credit

Whether you are eligible for assessment or not, you will automatically gain transcript recognition for earning over 150 Rise points during your degree. Points can be transferred between years so your total will keep rising as you engage with Rise. On your final degree transcript we will include a ‘practice credit’ unit which does not count towards your overall degree grade, but which outlines the additional efforts you have put into the Rise programme. This is added at the end of your final year, and is in the form of a single non-classificatory module which will appear on your transcript without a grade as ‘Rise at Manchester Met’.

This process takes place automatically at the very end of your final year, after your marks have been finalised at the end of June – until then you are free to keep engaging with Rise and earning points!

Your Rise transcript has been designed to complement your academic transcript. It’s a shareable document that outlines what you did to earn your Rise points in more detail. We encourage you to use this alongside your transcript to demonstrate everything you’ve done during your time at Manchester Met.

Upcoming events

We have lots of awe-inspiring opportunities for you over third term and summer. Get certified in Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign, or Volunteer at the Festival of Libraries.

None of these tickle your pickle? Then take a look at our upcoming at the Rise calendar and book your places – you don’t want to miss out!
