Gardening 101 Workshop at Birley Campus

1st May 13:00 to 16:00
Join us for a gardening session at Birley to redevelop two of our large planter areas on campus and find out how you can help in greening of the Manchester Met campus.

Join us for a gardening session at Birley to redevelop two of our large planter areas on campus and find out how you can help in greening of the Manchester Met campus.

Our Birley campus hosts a variety of  greenspaces and landscape design that support wildlife, growing food and that help reduce the risks of flooding in urban areas.

The sessions will focus on preparing the ground and planting a range of ornamental, edible and medicinal plants to help boost biodiversity and the enhance appearance of the areas.

You will be working directly with the University’s head gardener and alongside other students where there will be plenty of opportunity to learn about a range of horticultural issues and top gardening tips. You can speak with us to find out more about taking on the plot, and managing its development with other students and staff to grow a range of plants and produce.

In this session, we’ll be focussing planting out a selection of plants in two large planters. This will be a physical activity, involving shovels, spades, and wheelbarrows.

The session will take place in all weather conditions. Please make sure you wear weather appropriate clothing, including suitable footwear (not open footwear allowed).
