House Of MCR at Factory International Paid work experience (Fashion Design/Styling/Production)
House of MCR
Created by Darren Pritchard and Rikki Beadle-Blair
Commissioned and Produced by Factory International
About House of MCR
House of MCR is a new live performance event celebrating creativity and excellence in the black queer community. This music, dance and runway competition event will use some of the traditional historical formats and structures of a vogue ball but with a unique Mancunian twist- think Project Runway, The Voice, and RuPaul’s Drag Race all in one event!
The event will be co-created by creative director Darren Pritchard and writer/host Rikki Beadle Blair, who will set the context, background, and links between the 6 competition categories: We Dress, We Dance, We Sing, We Strip, We Lip Sync, and We Are Family. The performance will feature professional and non-professional performers from the QTIPOC community in Manchester and the North-West.
House of MCR—Factory International
As a collaboration between Factory International, and Manchester Fashion Institute (MFI), we are offering an exclusive PAID work experience opportunity for seven MFI students. You’ll work closely with cast designers in an ‘assistant’ style role, supporting them with designing, making, styling, production, and promotion for the event. Each successful student will be paired with one of our seven designers or performers, matched based on their individual skills, interests, and strengths.
Gavin Douglas (Programme Lead -BA Fashion Design and Technology) and Nathan Roberts (Lecturer- Fashion marketing) will make the selections with consultation from designers, but please feel free tell us who you would like to work with in your statement !

In addition to your assistant role, selected students will also participate in the final production and performance week as dressers, costumers, and production assistants across all 3 performances. This hands-on experience will provide invaluable insights into the fast-paced world of live fashion performance events, enriching both your skills and CV.
Additionally, students will support their assigned designer or performer from May 13th to June 14th, with specific arrangements made on an individual basis (1-2days, 8hours).
Don’t miss out on this chance to be a part of the House of MCR X Factory International event!
Students must be available from June 17th for preparation and rehearsal and all three performance evenings from June 20th to June 22nd. The schedule, dates, timings and requirements are subject to change and amendment. Students will need to be flexible.
This is a paid opportunity- Students will receive an hourly rate (equal to or above national minimum wage) for the days they are required to attend. Further information will be given to successful applicants with a breakdown of details.
This opportunity is open to all students who wish to celebrate inclusivity and diversity, as members/ allies to the QTIPOC and LGBTQIA+ community.
