St John Ambulance - Suicide Prevention Certificate (Wednesday 24th April, PM)
Please be aware that this course focuses on students in a university and covers subjects that some people may find distressing, including suicide and self-harm. If a delegate feels overwhelmed, they can leave the course at any time.
However, if you feel in advance that this subject may be too distressing for you then do not book on. By booking on, you confirm that you are a 2nd year or above Faculty of Science and Engineering student who has ALREADY COMPLETED YOUR MENTAL HEALTH CERTIFICATE.
If you are unsure whether this topic is suitable for you, or have concerns regarding suicide and self-harm, please contact us via the University’s 24/7 helpline: 08082389888 and the Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing Service 016120247203493 with further information here: Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing | Manchester Metropolitan University (mmu.ac.uk)
This training session enhances your understanding of the factors that may lead to suicidal behaviour, how someone might come to think about suicide, signs to look out for, how to keep someone safe who is thinking about suicide, as well as knowledge of the key components of suicide prevention.
The 3-hour certification course (including comfort breaks) is designed to build awareness and equip individuals with the skills and confidence to intervene in helping others, as well as demonstrating how to communicate empathetically and supportively with student specific case studies and practical activities.
There is no assessment but full attendance is required to be successfully awarded your Suicide Prevention Certificate accredited by St John Ambulance.
MMU is working with St John Ambulance to deliver this training. If you would like to attend, we will retain a record of your attendance and training outcome reported to us by St John Ambulance and we will also be required to share your full name and student email address with St John Ambulance so that you can be provided with a certificate. We rely on the legitimate interest lawful basis to use your information in this way. A record of your attendance will be retained by the University for the academic year.
