Intercultural Competence for Global Communication
This course is grounded in a problem-based learning (PBL) perspective where learners will engage in problem solving activities, analysing, setting and verifying hypotheses and developing working strategies to propose solutions.
In the first half of the course (sessions 1-4), learners will explore the complexity of culture, identity and belonging and discuss sources of learning about the ‘Other’. They will analyse, discuss and reflect on what is needed for successful communication and greater intercultural understanding.
In the second half of the course (sessions 5-8), learners will explore why people from different cultures may behave and react in certain ways. They will identify miscommunications and differences, analyse these from different cultural perspectives, set and verify hypotheses and suggest solutions to improve intercultural competency in a local to global setting.
