Winter in the Long Nineteenth Century
Since their first symposium in June 2021, this online Seminar Series has offered a fabulous platform for PGRs/ECRs to share their research and for students from all disciplines to learn more about the long nineteenth century.
The MMU PGR/ECR Long Nineteenth Century Interdisciplinary Research Seminar Series is organised by Postgraduate students at Manchester Met and are aimed at fostering inter-institutional and multi-faculty networking.
Seminars are held on the third/last Thursday of every month, with two or three speakers presenting their research around a similar theme or topic related to the long nineteenth century.
This seminar will focus on winter in the Long Nineteenth Century and will feature the following presentations:
Jemma Stewart
Two ‘black marks on the hill-side’: the old, gnarled holly trees of Elizabeth Gaskell’s ‘The Old Nurse’s Story’ (1852)
Grace Marks
Festivities and Friendship: Winter Illustrations in Ally Sloper’s Half-Holiday.
