aAh! Magazine X Special Collections Visual Arts Workshop - Design, Illustration & Photography
Calling all visual artists – immerse yourselves in print history, get involved with your student magazine and be part of The LEGACY Issue.
The upcoming issue of aAh! will feature articles, features, and artworks, marking the bicentenary of Manchester Met and the publication of our tenth issue. We’ll be shining a spotlight on the rich talent at the University, including through our Featured Artists, which all students are encouraged to get involved. We’re holding a special Rise event, in collaboration with Special Collections, to help gather submissions from artists of all kinds.
Our event will include exploring the collections of historical magazines and periodicals held in the library, visiting their exhibition of 19th century mass media, and looking at student-led media from Manchester Met over its history. We will explore the power of art to leave a long-lasting legacy, and think about how you can reflect this in your practice. The event will encourage artists to prepare their work for submission, will allow you to gain confidence in sharing your practice with a wider audience, and help you explore how your art helps to form a personal legacy and shapes history.
We would encourage artists to think before the event about their own practice. Consider – what sort of legacy do you reflect in your work? Feel free to bring along examples of your own work to share. Our team will assist in submitting artworks to be considered for our upcoming issue.
After the event, our team of student designers, illustrators, and photographers will be holding their weekly meeting, which you’ll be welcome to join if you’d like to see how the magazine is made and get involved in your student magazine.
