Speech, language & communication development

Understanding the pattern of language development and how it links to different ages and stages of other aspects of development can help us to support children appropriately.  It can also help us to recognise when a child’s speech, language and/or communication is out of balance.   

In this video you will hear about the development of speech, language and communication and how all the components impact on each other. We will also talk about the impact of developmental changes on language development, and speech, language and communication in relation to other aspects of development such as physical, fine motor etc.  

Watch the video below.  Pay particular attention to the discussion about the communication pyramid and make brief notes on this – you’ll need these for one of the following activities.  You can watch the video as many times as you need.
