Prepare: Task 1

Prepare: Task 1

Your linguistic repertoire is a set of skills and knowledge you possess of one or more languages, as well as their different varieties. We all have many ‘languages’, or ways of speaking, and can draw upon these to aid communication.

By completing this activity you will begin to understand your own linguistic repertoire and how it can be useful when communicating across language barriers.

Linguistic repertoire

This exercise will help you to graphically represent your linguistic repertoire (the languages and ways of speaking that you have experienced/are important in your life). You can either use the silhouette provided below or draw one yourself. Choose colours that fit the different languages and modes of speaking that have a particular meaning for you. Please bring your completed silhouette to this week’s workshop.

OPTIONAL

This activity is inspired by the work of Brigitta Busch
