Exercise: Draft Your Idea Pitch
Time to get writing. Start to build your pitch based on the steps above, weaving in your unique values and personal story.
What You’ll Need:
– Your notebook or device (again, let’s make sure it’s on silent)
– A quick review of your previous exercises to jog your memory
– A quiet space where you can think without distractions
The Steps:
Review and Reflect: Go over your notes from earlier exercises. These may contain valuable nuggets about your own personal values and story that’ll allow you to truly finesse your final pitch.
Combine the Elements: Now, take the pitch structure we outlined in Topic 3 as your framework and weave in your unique value and personal story. This is your chance to bring together everything you’ve learned into a compelling narrative for your new idea.
Practice Makes Perfect: After drafting, read your pitch out loud. Again, that mirror is going to be your friend here. Remember, a pitch often sounds different than it does on paper, and this is your time to smooth out any wrinkles in delivery.
Time is Your Everything: Aim for a pitch that’s between 2-3 minutes. You want to be comprehensive, yet concise.
Review and Refine: Once everything’s feeling pretty much ready, find a device to record yourself doing the pitch and play it back. You’ll gain new insights from this.
Finally, find someone whose opinion you respect and who’ll give you straightforward feedback. You’re looking to polish this pitch until it shines.

Stop and Reflect:
- How did it feel to integrate all the elements into one pitch?
- What useful feedback did you get from your test audience?
- Did anything surprise you during this exercise?
