Key person

A key person has special responsibilities for working with a small number of children, giving them the reassurance to feel safe and cared for and building relationships with their parents.

Use this document to reflect on the statements below:

Use the effective practice section to think about your own practice and identify areas you could improve
Use the reflecting on practice section to think about how each child’s development can be supported through their experiences
Use the challenges and dilemmas section and think about how you might overcome them.

The birth to 5 matters website contains a wealth of resources about attachment and the role of the key person. Have a look at the materials and make notes about the impact of the key person on the child, the family and the practitioners.
