First: What’s the Big Idea? A Guided Exercise

Buisness 101

Before you can pitch a great idea, you’re going to need one. Business 101, that.

If you already have an idea in mind, great! But if not, let’s start working on one.

For this exercise to work, you’re really going to have to dig deep and come up with an idea that you believe in. It could be a business proposition, a community project, or a workplace initiative, or something else entirely.

Your pitch will be most compelling if the idea you’re presenting aligns closely with your own values. That way, it’ll add a layer of authenticity and passion that will make your pitch irresistible.

Exercise: Mining For Your Big Idea

Let’s start but doing some work on that big idea, and let’s ground it in the personal values that we’ve already identified you have.

Value Reflection: Start by listing your core values.

Problem Identification: Now think about issues or gaps in the community, workplace, or market that resonate with those values.

Idea Generation: Come up with a list of potential ideas that address these issues or gaps. What feels most compelling, which ideas leap out at you?

Though the above process feels straightforward, make no mistake, this isn’t a simple task. But keep working at your concept until you feel ready to ‘take it to pitch’…you never know, you might be onto the next big thing here!
