Building Early Relationships

Interactions with young children can impact on their wellbeing, development and learning experiences. Providing and modelling healthy and positive interactions can support young children to develop self-confidence and an understanding of their feelings, enabling them to better regulate their behaviour.

By completing this activity, you will develop an understanding of how the earliest years of a child’s life have a significant impact on their long-term development and life chances and that the first 1001 days (from conception to the age of 2) are a critical period of development. This is because the earliest experiences, starting in pregnancy, shape a baby’s brain development and have an impact throughout their life.

Develop

Effectively supporting the development of a young child can be achieved through positive and meaningful interactions. Forming close bonds with young children can benefit both the young child and the adult, enabling them to interact in the best way possible.
