Welcome to STRIVE!
The STRIVE programme launches on RISE in October 2024 will run through April 2025. This is a programme of exciting, interesting thought-provoking workshops and activities that will enhance the likelihood of your success at university! The sessions cover personal professional development , academic coaching excellence (ACE), employment and employability, and health, wellbeing activities. We have (free) socials that enable you to meet others and make friends. Our mission is to support you in achieving your goals and to create an environment in which you can thrive here at Manchester Met. We do this by ensuring that you are centred in all that we do and by celebrating the diversity that you bring to our community!
By engaging with this programme on RISE you have the opportunity to gain up to 300 RISE points!
There is a 3 step progression on RISE, which is based on the number of hours completed via a combination of self study pack here on RISE and face to face workshops.

Silver badge (85 hours)
Gold badge (100 hours)
Every STRIVER will have the opportunity of completing at least two short (6-8 hours) unpaid virtual internships simulations tailored to your degree. These virtual internships are designed to help you succeed when applying for future work opportunities. On completion of your internships, you will a certificate of completion and join the online Forage Linkedin community. These internships are hosted by a range of organisations across a variety of industries, such as Red bull (Food and Beverage), Accenture (Consulting) and Lululemon (Fashion and Commerce) to name a few.
Other opportunities on STRIVE include 1:1 mentoring, insight days, business lunches and networking events, business competitions. All of these opportunities are provided by employers that with partner with.
Last year a team from STRIVE came 3rd in the national Microsoft EDI Universities Business Competition, winning £150.
Embarking on the STRIVE programme, will unlock access to dedicated health and wellbeing support, peer support and a personalised mentor. Further to this, you will gain exclusive access to our tailored academic coaching excellence (ACE) workshops and associated 1:1 targeted support to help you through your assessments. Enhanced support from careers professionals and recruiters, is also on offer, enabling you to up your game, when applying for internships/placements and graduate jobs!
At the heart of everything we do on the STRIVE programme is compassion. All of our teaching practices are compassionate and focus on you, as a unique individual, and your unique experiences and needs. Talking about your racialised experiences, is front and centre of conversations within our STRIVE community, facilitated by our “Talk about race forums. There are also Connect hub ‘Telling stories’ sessions where real life role models share their relatable lived stories of career peaks and valleys, with advice for participants.
The STRIVE programme has been designed with you in mind: taking into account your unique needs and experiences. Completing this programme will enable you to achieve your academic and professional development goals. It will support you to level up and develop the confidence to pursue whatever you seek to.
You’ll be pleased to know that upon successful completion of STRIVE as part of the RISE programme at Manchester Metropolitan University, you will be awarded 300 RISE points for your efforts which will be recognised as up to 30 extra credits on your transcript for employers to see.
As a postgraduate student on STRIVE, you are eligible to undertake our incredible research programme – Q Step! On completion of the programme you will gain a certificate accredited by our national research centre Q Step. This demonstrates to prospective employers and Universities you may apply to for doctoral opportunities, of your competence in quantitative research. The Q Step programme is also an amazing opportunity to develop your research skills to apply for your dissertation. You will take part in a STRIVE poster showcase event and be eligible to win a prize!
We end the programme where we are joined by mentors, associates and senior leaders of the university, with an amazing celebration event in March 2025 – to celebrate your achievements with music, food, prizes and certificates!
