Unleash Your Inner Creativity: Summer School
Angela Rayner, LS Lowry, the BBC, Carol Ann Duffy, Marcus Rashford are all inspiring people from Manchester. And although not all of these people are traditional artists, they prove that being creative comes in all different forms; whether that’s creating music, film production, or community engagement and projects. This is one of the reasons why we love Manchester! It’s the home to creativity, community, and simply just being yourself – which is why this summer we are unleashing your inner creativity by offering, not one, but two summer schools where you’ll need your creative bucket hat on! Take a look at the opportunities which are only a button away…
Self Publishing Summer School
Zines. Magazines. Artist books. Interested in how you can self publish these unique creative assets? Then the self publishing summer school is the best place to be. Running over the course of five days in August, the short course will provide an introduction to methods of self publishing, with talks and workshops from practitioners making zines, magazines and artist books. You will also be joined by Manchester School of Art alumni, bookbinding technicians and Poetry Library staff, ensuring you make wonderful connections and learn more about Manchester’s creative scene. Get a quick introduction to the amazing four experts you will learn from:
Rahel Zoller: a London based artist and book arts and design specialist and educator. Rahel’s work questions the concept of what a book is by subverting, embracing, and interrogating the form and materiality of the book itself. Whilst also considering the interaction between user, creator and society. Since October 2015, Rahel has been a member of ABC (Artists’ Books Cooperative).
Chris Printed This: a designer, illustrator and printmaker based in South Yorkshire. Their work explores Pop Culture, Queer Culture, Art History, and more esoteric themes, often centred on the occult. They utilise a range of different print methods in their work, from riso, to lino and sometimes etching.
Ceremony Press: an independent publisher based in Manchester, establish May 2018, showcasing contemporary photography and various other forms of visual art. Collaboration is at the heart of Ceremony Press, giving emerging practitioners an opportunity to publish, using printed matter as a way of sharing ideas and presenting new works.
Multitudes Zine Fest: made up of Heena Patel (one of the organisers of Over Here Zine Fest), Mish Green (a writer and zine maker) and Jasmine Gardner is (a visual artist and co-director of Happening In MCR), MZF is a space for zines which focuses on Black, brown and global majority, neurodivergent, disabled, working class and LGBTQ+ zine-makers.
