Writing & Talking Saturday Club Co-facilitators 2024-25 second call
The Writing & Talking Saturday Club runs on Saturday afternoons, from 8th Feb through to 14th June. We are looking to recruit students with an interest in creative approaches to working with young people to support delivery of this nationally recognised project, which will meet, weekly during school term times, in the Poetry Library.

What does it mean to be a co-facilitator?
Becoming a Saturday Club Co-Facilitator means you will learn how to develop skills around the delivery of workshops. We will touch upon delivery methods, important things to know when leading sessions/lessons/workshops/activities, look at planning a session, and consider ways you can support the lead tutor in the club delivery.
You will then support a lead Club Tutor to run sessions and support a group of 13-16 year olds on Saturdays, on campus.
What is Saturday Club?
The National Saturday Club is a network of subject specialist clubs for young people, they run all over the country and offer 13-16 year olds free workshops in a subject of their choice.
Manchester Metropolitan has a long history of running Saturday Clubs and Writing & Talking Saturday Club has run out of the Manchester Poetry Library for the last three years. The club is led by two postgraduate Lead Tutors, who are supported by colleagues from the Poetry Library and the Manchester Writing School.
We need students like you to come and support the delivery, bring your wonderful personalities and varied interests, and show young people what it is like to live in Manchester and attend a vibrant university like Manchester Met.
Whether you have experience working with children and young people, or are just interested in writing-related, creative activity, or like the idea of learning to facilitate workshops, we want to hear from you. Send us an expression of interest, tell us about yourself, your experience, and what you study.
The club will be delivered across 14 sessions between 1st Feb and 14th June. Full details of the programme, including a trip to London for the National Saturday Club Summer Showcase, will be shared with successful applicants.
We understand that, across such a long programme, there may be occasional Saturdays when people can’t be there. We can work around this but it would be helpful, in your expression of interest, if you could let us know if you forsee any reasons why you might not be available during certain times.
No experience is required. The groups will be led by two experienced Lead Tutors and essential training and support will be given.
Two essential training sessions will take place before the club starts on 8th Feb. Please make a note of these in your diaries as, if you are selected, you will be expected to attend:
Session 1: Wednesday 29th January 2025, 2-4pm with Elle Simms / RISE
Session 2 with club tutors: Wednesday 5th February 2-4pm
