Self Publishing Summer School (FULLY BOOKED)

5th August to 9th August
Join us in the bookbinding workshop for an experimental self publishing summer school!

Join Manchester School of Art alumni, bookbinding technicians and Poetry Library staff for this exciting summer school programme looking at self publishing.

Ran over the course of five days, the short course will provide an introduction to methods of self publishing, with talks and workshops from practitioners making zines, magazines and artist books. The following self publishers will be giving an introduction to their practice:

> Rahel Zoller: a London based artist and book arts and design specialist and educator. Rahel’s work questions the concept of what a book is by subverting, embracing, and interrogating the form and materiality of the book itself. Whilst also considering the interaction between user, creator and society. Since October 2015, Rahel has been a member of ABC (Artists’ Books Cooperative)

Her works have been published and exhibited internationally and are held in a number of collections such as the MoMA Artists’ Books collection in New York, Artists’ Books Tate Library Collection, the Booklet Library in Tokyo, the Museum of the Manuscripts of Mont-Saint-Michel in France, the Centre for Artists’ Publications in Weserburg Bremen Germany and at the archive at MACBA in Barcelona, Spain.

> Chris Printed This: a designer, illustrator and printmaker based in South Yorkshire. Their work explores Pop Culture, Queer Culture, Art History, and more esoteric themes, often centred on the occult. They utilise a range of different print methods in their work, from riso, to lino and sometimes etching.

> Ceremony Press: an independent publisher based in Manchester, establish May 2018, showcasing contemporary photography and various other forms of visual art. Collaboration is at the heart of Ceremony Press, giving emerging practitioners an opportunity to publish, using printed matter as a way of sharing ideas and presenting new works.

There are 15 places available. Please sign up then email us an Expression of Interest telling us a little about your interest in self publishing or zine making. We would love to know about why you are applying to the summer school — bookbinding@mmu.ac.uk.
