Pitching, Presence & Practice
This workshop, led by Davey Brett – a freelance journalist and commercial copywriter based in Manchester – introduces students to the art of pitching: the ability to communicate your ideas, your practice, and your potential in a clear, engaging, and professional way. Davey’s work has been featured in The Guardian, VICE, Esquire, Shortlist, Mundial, Huck, The Face, and The Fence, bringing first-hand experience of how to stand out in competitive creative industries.
Through interactive activities, you will develop and present your own “first pitch”, experimenting with frameworks and approaches that help you articulate who you are, what you do, and why it matters. You will also work collaboratively with peers, offering and receiving constructive feedback to sharpen your message and build confidence in speaking about your work.
The session concludes with reflection on your personal and professional presence, including the role of digital and social spaces in shaping how others perceive your practice. By the end, you will have crafted a mini pitch, gained strategies to strengthen your profile, and built skills that will support your transition into future creative industries, placements, and graduate opportunities.
